Introduction to the XJ8

The Jaguar XJ8 is a luxury saloon produced by Jaguar from 1997. The XJ8 saw the Jaguar XJ revised for a final time and this time the car had changed more than the X300 had done over the XJ40. The exterior styling was mildly revised but the XJ8’s biggest change lay under the bonnet. A new and hugely praised, V8 engine was introduced in the XJ8. The new 8 cylinder engines not only saw the temporary end of 6 cylinder and 12 cylinder in an XJ, but the legendary XJ6 moniker was dropped for XJ8. The interior was changed greatly, featuring a new "oval design" dashboard (first seen in the XK) with matching door veneers. The XJR version of the XJ8 featured a 5 speed automatic transmission.
A limited edition XJR called the XJR 100 was available in 2002 only. The XJR 100 came only in black (paint as well as exterior trim) with black leather interior. Only 500 were produced. The XJ8 model continued until a new aluminum bodied replacement (X350) was unveiled in 2002.
